Enrollment

Students applying to MNPS Virtual School must meet the following requirements for enrollment:

• The applicant has a 2.0 grade point average (GPA) at the high school level. The applicant has an overall "C" average at the middle and elementary school level in all courses.
• The applicant scores proficient on the most recent Fast Universal Screener Assessment in Reading and Math. If no data is available, previous TNReady and/or MAP data will be used to verify proficiency)
• The applicant has no more than ten unexcused absences during the previous or current semester.
• The applicant is on-pace to graduate, with the designated graduation cohort, in 4 years.
• The applicant completes all mandatory new student induction activities required by MNPS Virtual School.

Virtual learning provides students the flexibility to access their courses remotely. Though, there are instances throughout the school year where Virtual School students are required to report for local and state in-person testing, including:

• MTSS Universal Testing (Grades 6-9)
• TNReady (TCAP)/EOC Testing
• ACT Testing (11th & 12th Grade)
• Pre-ACT (10th Grade)
• WIDA (EL Students)
• Dual Credit Exams
• AP Exams
• Benchmark Testing 

Enrollment eligibility is contingent on students reporting for and completing all required local and state in-person testing.

MNPS Virtual School provides students with the opportunity to participate in athletics and other school organizations.

• Middle school students interested in continuing or beginning sports and other extra-curricular activities will have a chance to participate at their designated zoned school.

• High school students may participate in athletics and other extracurricular activities through their designated zoned high school.

Attendance Policy | Attendance Matters every day at MNPS Virtual School. Absences are used for truancy reporting purposes per TCA 49-6-3001 and impact a student's enrollment eligibility.

Grades 6-8

Students in grades 6 through 8 receive direct core instruction through Teams. Attendance is taken daily and requires students to be actively engaged, on camera and responsive to their teacher's prompts and questions. Students who are not actively engaged in Teams will be marked absent for truancy reporting purposes, which can impact enrollment eligibility.

Grades 9-12

Students who are off-track in one or more courses with an overall grade of less than 60% at set intervals must attend a Student Success Meeting via Teams. Failure to participate in a Student Success Meeting via Teams results in the accrual of an unexcused absence for truancy reporting purposes and impacts enrollment eligibility. Students must be on-track in all of their courses by the dates published in the Virtual School Calendar to avoid being required to attend a Student Success Meeting.

MTSS Tiered Interventions Students in grades 6 through 9 who receive Tier II or III intervention will receive direct instruction through Teams. Attendance is taken daily and requires students to be actively engaged, on camera, and responsive to their teacher's prompts and questions. Students who are not actively engaged in Teams will be marked absent for truancy reporting purposes and impact enrollment eligibility.

MNPS Virtual School is currently accepting applications for the 2025-26 school year. Please note that we do not accept applications for Grade 12 for the spring term.

• Quarter 1 enrollment dates: January 21, 2025 through September 4, 2025, pending grade-level seat availability
• Quarter 2 enrollment dates: September 5, 2025 through November 6, 2025, pending grade-level seat availability
• Quarter 3 enrollment dates: November 7, 2025 through January 15, 2026, pending-grade level seat availability
