Trina Edwards Leads Focused Efforts to Increase Parental Engagement & Support at MNPS VS!

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE. Today MNPS Virtual School announced the hiring of Mrs. Trina Edwards as an Educational Assistant specializing in parent engagement and support. Based upon feedback from Virtual School parents, Edwards was hired to increase parental engagement, development, and support. Executive Principal of Virtual School - Dr. James Vince Witty - shares, “Edwards brings a unique perspective to Virtual School.  Her experiences as a Virtual School parent will drive her work to further engage and develop lasting, supportive, partnerships between our families and school community. Edwards’ expertise in online learning will only further inform her work with our parents and students.”

Trina is an Indiana native who attended Indiana University for a Bachelor’s in Arts and Humanities. She remained at Indiana University earning her Master of Education degree, as well as a certificate in Online Teaching. Edwards is currently a doctoral candidate at Northeastern University and will graduate with her Doctor of Education degree in May of 2018. Trina Edwards expressed her excitement to join the Virtual School family noting "As a virtual educator, I love finding new ways for technology to engage learners in becoming producers, not consumers, of information.  My role at Virtual School not only allows me the opportunity to encourage our students to become the protagonists of their own learning, but also to empower our parents to support them as online learners."

A virtual learner and leader since 1999, Trina has long been aware of the affordances of technology for learning. She is passionate about discovering new ways to harness technology for the education of both young people and adults in multiple contexts. Edwards considers herself a scholar-practitioner, grounding her work in theory and research, just as her research is driven by the need to find solutions to existing problems of practice.

Mrs. Trina Edwards is available to support parents and can be contacted via telephone at (615) 463-0188 Ext. 3920 or via email to
