Historian and VS Teacher, Mr. Humphreys, Explains it All!

Blog Contributor: Dr. Zack Barnes

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE. One of MNPS Virtual School’s newest full-time faculty members is Mr. Caleb Humphreys. He teaches a variety of courses for both middle and high school students. Recently, we had a chance to sit down with Mr. Humphreys to find out more about him and his interests.

What is your favorite subject to teach and why?

My favorite subject to teach is history. I like studying people, and history is the study of people. I love to look into big ideas and big cultural shifts. By studying history, you can make better decisions about the future by learning from the past.

Where did your love of history come from?

I had a college professor that inspired me to study history. His passion about history made me equally passionate about it. My professor demonstrated how important history is to the world. The more you know the better choices you make.

What do you like to do for fun?

I love the outdoors. I especially love to go kayaking on the Harpeth River. I also enjoy traveling and visiting new cities. It’s fun to learn about the history of the cities that I visit. I also love a good vacation on the beach.

What’s the best advice for students to do well in your courses?

Try to submit your assignments on-time. Also, make sure that you read all the instructions and try your best. Staying on-pace, throughout the semester, is the best advice I can give a student. If a student gets behind, it can sometimes be extremely stressful and difficult to catch up. Your independent work ethic will determine how well you do in your courses. But know that I am always an email or phone call away for support. My primary goal is to grow every student no matter where they are currently at.
